When you hear the word Iqama for the first time it might sound like a new word if you’ve not visited Saudi Arabia or never heard from people who live in Saudi Arabia.
What is Iqama?
Iqama is a residency permit for Expatriates provided by the government of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
All Expatriates (foreign workers) working or living in Saudi Arabia will have a Sponsor or Kafeel who is a local employer and will provide a residency card known as Iqama for expats to work, live and travel freely Saudi Arabia. Iqama is an important document required for every Non-Saudi national for living in the kingdom for every thing you wanna do in Saudi Arabia.
Be it driving License, Opening an account in a Bank, Renting a House, Sending Money to your Home Country or crossing the border Iqama is required.
You cannot roam or cross Saudi checkpoints without having an Iqama.
Iqama will be valid for One year, each year about 8000SR – 10000SR should be paid to the Sponsor (Kafeel) to renew it. (For each Iqama, medical insurance is compulsory, done by sponsor). Iqama can be renewed each year for unlimited period or age of person, or sponsor’s special recommendation with 8000SR or fee fixed for that particular year.
Iqama fees is rising due to Saudization rules and Vision 2030.
Using Iqama an Expatriate can travel anywhere in Saudi Arabia and reside in any flats. Though owning a place, house, company is not possible, opening a new Bank account, and car need Sponsor’s permission. Remittance bank account can be made with limited transaction but it is usually enough (according to salary).
Iqama (Residency Permit) will have the following details:
Iqama has the name, DOB, Religion, Iqama Validity and Profession of the person mentioned
Iqama needs to be renewed every year and comes with an Expiry Date, whenever your Iqama get expired an expat needs to get the Iqama renewed without any delays to avoid fine.

Easy Method Of Checking Iqama Expiry Date:

First Of All, You Have To Open Absher Website To Check Iqama Expiry date By Clicking On This Link: www.Absher.Sa
”Business” and ”Individuals” two options will be shown on the home page. You will click on Individuals.
change the language Arabic to English on opening the new page.
Now login page is opened, you have to enter your Iqama number in User ID, then the password of your Absher account and the image code as shown there.
You will have to create an account on Absher to check Iqama expiry date. If you have not created your account yet, you may use the ”Absher account” of any friend.
When you will click on the login button, the system will send a verification code on your mobile phone. Enter this code in the required box. Now your account is shown.
You can find the option of ” Query Iqama Expiry Service” on the below of the page. You will click on this option.
On opening a new page, enter your ten-digit iqama number and image code, which is shown below in the box.

- You will have to open the Ministry of Interior website https://www.moi.gov.sa iqama status red green, by clicking on the link.
- Select your language as “English”.
- Now click on “E-Services” Tab.
- Click on the “Passport” shown on the left side.
- Then find “Query” by going down, after clicking on it, the system will ask about your Iqama number.
- Enter a ten-digit number and image code. Then click on “View” to check iqama expiry.
